Many thought that it would be a novelty feature and nothing more. But since camera technology has evolved to a point that they were smaller, better and cheaper to produce, smart phone snappers can now match up to high end digital cameras. And thus, they became an expected feature of any smart phone.

Franky So is a scientist who comes from the University of Florida and he was able to use the same technology which is used to produce modern day flat screen TVs in order to make night vision for mobile phone possible. His material of choice is a lightweight piece of plastic:
“This device can convert any infrared image into a visible image and would weigh no more than a pair of eyeglasses.”
So how does this actually work? In plain English, the paper thin plastic film consists of seven layers. The first layer of the film is able to produce a small electric charge which disperses to the rest of the layers. It then gets amplified using only about 3 up to 5 volts in order to form shapes in the dark that is visible to the naked eye.
Thanks to this discovery, it is now possible to produce night vision for mobile phones cheap and fast, so there is nothing stopping manufacturers from adding this if the public has use for it.
